Ministry to Men Matters

by Rick Allen on May 22, 2025

We are about to celebrate National Men’s Ministry Day on Sunday, June 15 (Father’s Day).

On that day we remind everyone that, “Ministry to Men Matters” and is fundamental to building spiritually mature and strong men who will lead in their families, the church, and your community.

Perhaps you’ve noticed us using that phrase a lot lately. We’re doing so because it’s true. Ministry to Men Matters!

However, celebrating men and ministering to them seems unimportant or too difficult in far too many places.

What’s happening in our nation and in millions of families is tragic. Men are hurting. The sociological and economic statistics are saddening and startling. For example, Barna Research determined that even though 83% of men in the U.S. identify as Christian, only 33% ever attend church.

Also, less that one third of men in American churches say they have a male friend. That is devastating. Men need other men as friends!

Typical church crowds are 61% female and 39% male. It is clear that men are not connected to the church even though women, youth, and children do at much higher percentages.

As a pastor, U.S. missionary, and church health coach of many years, I am especially troubled by this next finding. Fewer than 10% of American churches invest anything (money or time) into starting or sustaining a ministry to men. This is heartbreaking because 100% of American churches would benefit from one.

We have stepped away from men because we are buying the message of popular culture that men are unimportant or a lost cause. Men are stepping away from their responsibilities as husbands and fathers as they drift away from the church -- the people and place which should consider them a valuable asset.

Every church in the United States should be intentional about some kind of special focus on ministry to men. Every church. No exceptions. Spiritually mature men who are growing as disciples of Jesus Christ bless their families, their pastors, their churches, and others in their world.

"Every church in the United States should be intentional about some kind of special focus on ministry to men. Every church. No exceptions."

At National Men's Ministry it is very important to us that men understand they are loved, valued, and appreciated. Such demonstrations help men make connections with their families and neighbors. To help men in your church make and maintain those connections, you can access more than 400 FREE discipleship resources at men.ag.org or on the Men's Ministries app.

The upcoming National Men's Ministries Day (Father's Day), June 15, is a great time to springboard into a conversation about ministry to men through discipleship, ministry service, and missional endeavors. You'll find all you need on our website or the app.

As you celebrate Father’s Day, remember to also honor the role of godly men in the home and community. Why? Because Ministry to Men Matters!
